Breakup Blog – Week 6

How healthy are you?

Hey sis!

I would love to know how you went last week with creating an additional stream of income or looking into a side hustle? I truly hope you can breathe a little easier now your finances are in order.

This week we are going to focus on you and your health.

When we get into relationships we often abandon a few of our values to spend more time with the other person, for example in a new relationship we tend to go to the gym less and less as we are so smitten with our partners we truly want to spend every second we can with them. Or in other cases our partners tell us “you look amazing, you don’t need to go to the gym, stay home with me instead” and as all well and good that can be and as much as they mean well, by staying home to spend more time with them you are neglecting your health and putting spending time with them above you. So when the relationship falls apart you are often left in a state of poor health and are unfit.

Now moreso then ever it is truly important to get back into a healthy lifestyle and start putting a routine into place of working out regularly not only for your physical health but more for your mental health.

Did you know that by working out each day you increase the serotonin in your brain (which is the happy chemical) therefore you are more likely to have better days than bad days.

For me personally I love to either go for a morning walk or do a gym workout before I start my day as it always starts my day off on the right foot (no pun intended 😉).

Whilst we are on the subject of working out there is no right or wrong way to workout. In today’s society there are so many “workout trends” and so many different styles of training that offer different results. I’m a big believer in working out in a way that makes your heart happy, so if you are someone that likes to lift weights then go to the “bro” section of the gym, headphones on and throw some weights around. If you’re someone that prefers a slower pace and loves to take in the sunshine and scenery then walking may be more your thing. If you prefer to bash your frustration out then take up boxing or mixed martial arts etc, I think by now you get the point.   

By now you are probably sick of eating 2 min noodles and ice cream from the tub as let’s be real here they are the staple diet of a breakup so it’s time to start taking the time to cook and prep wholesome nutritious meals after all what you fuel your body with has a huge impact on not only the way you feel but again it comes back to your mental health. If you are someone that is very short on time and has no idea what to cook however is sick of eating chicken, rice and veg week in and week out I would strongly recommend starting a program. A program that has meal plans mapped out for you and recipes with wholesome meals as it will take the guess work and time out of having to research and plan each meal.

Whatever you do, do not buy into any fad or yo yo diets, you know the ones that promise you to lose 10kgs in 10 days or the ones that tell you to cut all carbs and sugar from your daily diet (because we all know how easily that is). As appealing as a fad diet is, it is a fad diet for a reason because it is not meant to be sustainable or have long term results. Our diet industry is built on quick fixes where results don’t last long as this is how they make their money, they suck you in time and time again. Let’s face it, if fad diets worked then there would be no need for the diet industry.

My biggest tip to help you get your health back on track is hiring a health coach/ wellness coach. A coach is someone that is going to keep you accountable to your goals and also someone who is going to be rooting for you and supporting you the whole step of the way. So when you’re having a bad day which you will have a few of (post breakup is rough) they will hold the light for you when you can’t hold it for yourself.
